Local and sustainable meat
Gotland meat is really delicious! Particularly from slightly older animals. I don’t usually slaughter the lambs, I wait till they are between 1 and 2 years old. A joint of slow cooked hogget is so easy to cook and is always mouth-wateringly good. Please contact me if you are interested in buying 1/2 or a whole Hogget, they are working out around £80 for a 1/2 cut up to your requirements.
There is a lot of discussion now about the morality and sustainability of eating meat. My sheep graze permanent species rich pasture. In the summer, it is buzzing with insects on all the flowers. Here in the New Forest if I wasn’t grazing my sheep the land would almost certainly be grazed by horses/ponies with all the implications of the carbon heavy costs of feeding them, not to mention grazing degradation so often seen on land grazed by horses.
I also have a few ewes that I will be sending on for mutton and if you have never tried it slow cooked then you are missing something special. I also really like little medallions of pan fried loin – a bit like venison! Nothing gets wasted – even old rams make amazing mince!
Livestock
I bred from 8 ewes in 2023 and have 16 lovely lambs having used 2 ram lambs this year. I had 2 singles and 2 sets of triplets. I was very lucky that one of the singles was born within minutes of a set of triplets so I managed to pop one of the triplets into the amniotic fluid of the single lamb and the rather surprised ewe accepted him with no problems. The other triplets were absolutely tiny, they were the ewes 1st lambs , which is unusual even for Gotlands , but I got them feeding and now they are well grown and SO friendly! I have kept them and mum in a field on their own so she doesn’t have to worry about other lambs trying to feed and she is a very friendly ewe who I nursed back to health last year after a really nasty dog attack!
I have 2 very nice proven rams for sale this summer and some super friendly lambs . Please get in contact if you want any more info

Hi I am wanting to purchase an uncut side of hogget or mutton in late December or early January. If you can help could you please drop me an e-mail. Many Thanks
Hello
Do you have any livestock (lambs) for sale?
Hi can you send me some prices on your Gotland lamb/mutton please
Hi Graham
Sorry about the delay in replying. I’m currently in hospital having just had bilateral knee replacements (one of the results of too many years farming, I fear!) I will hopefully have some Hoggets ready to kill possibly late July, depending somewhat how my knees are,or later in August. The carcasses usually weigh around 25kgs and I generally sell butchered halves that will be £85 each. Very happy to have a chat about anything, but maybe give me a couple of days my mobile is 07817670442.
Hope that is of some help
Sue
